Verena Barié (*1994) is a globally active recorder player, media artist, composer and curator. After a classical bachelor’s degree with a major in recorder, she completed the master’s program Live Electronics at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

The recorder led Barié to the intersection of music, new media and performance art early on.

She has lived in Cologne since October 2019 and works as a co-curator at LTK4 – Klangbasierte Künste Köln. She has been on the board of the Kölner Gesellschaft für Neue Musik e.V. since 2021 and helps shape the cultural life of Cologne’s independent music scene through musical and artistic events and cultural-political engagement. As a curator and concept developer, the main interest of her project space LTS4 x Licht.Ton.Sicht (since 2021) is to bring together artists from different generations together and to focus on learning from each other.

She aims to expand the art of discourse from the creative society to the public in order to refresh the culture of discussion that may have been lost in the digital age. Everything must be called into question – starting with temporal and architectural constructs in relation to social structures.

In addition to her solo activities, Barié is an active ensemble player, including in the Renaissance double sextet THE ROYAL WIND MUSIC (NL) since 2017 and in the sound-artistic 1st ELECTROPHONIC ORCHESTRA (DE) since 2020. Together with composer and live electronics artist Sjoerd Leijten, she forms “chirp.crush”, a border-crossing duo between experimental radio play, radio and sound art.

In addition to numerous CD and cassette publications, Verena Barié can also be heard live on Deutschlandfunk and Bayrischer Rundfunk and has made television appearances in Holland, Germany, Finland and Mexico.
