The Cologne duo AVATAR CURATORS plays installative and visual music. Verena Barié, recorders & electronics and Rochus Aust, trumpets & spatial arrangement, invent expanded artistic dimensions. Together they weave an acoustic web that combines the genres of new music, minimal ambient and improvised installation. 2024 has taken them to New Zealand, Singapore, India and most recently to the Indonesia UFO Festival.
Verena Barié (*1994) works internationally as a recorder player, media artist, composer and curator. The recorder brought her to the interface of music, new media and performance art early on. Since 2021, Barié has been shaping the cultural life of Cologne’s independent scene through musical and artistic events as well as cultural and political engagement. As a curator and concept developer, her main concern is to bring together artists from different generations and artistic fields.
Rochus Aust (*1968) belongs to the rare species of sound tronauts. He has received national and international awards as a musician and visual artist. With productions for festivals, institutions and public spaces, he has composed, staged and produced unique performances in over 40 countries. Aust is involved in recordings for labels, radio and television stations worldwide. He works at the interface between the coordinates of visual music, MOV installation and Poésie électronique.
